Northern Minerals operates the Browns Range pilot plant in Western Australia, which achieved production of heavy rare earth concentrate through innovative beneficiation of the xenotime-bearing orebody. The company was the first to produce a significant dysprosium-rich concentrate outside of China in recent decades. While facing operational and economic challenges, Northern Minerals has demonstrated technical feasibility of processing Australian heavy rare earth deposits.
